Printing: Step-by-Step
| Step 1 - Make PDF/x1 files for your cover and text. | |||||||
| Before you begin printing a book, it is critical that you make two PDF/X1-a files – one for your cover and one for your text. For a full discussion on that, click here. | |||||||
| . | |||||||
| Step 2 - Log In to your account and then the Book tab | |||||||
Remembering where you saved your PDFs, sign in to your account at www.snowfallpress.com. When you are logged in, look for a tab labeled “books” and click on that tab…you will see this screen:
Now, click on the “New Book” Tab. You will see the following screen – with your account name inserted in the Publisher column:
Click anywhere in the “No Title Set” line. The whole line will be highlighted in blue:
With the line highlighted in blue, click on the “Edit” tab. You will see the make-ready application screen, which looks like this:
| Step 3: Loading your book | |||||||
It is in this make-ready application area that you will upload your PDF cover and PDF body text. Be sure to have Flash installed before attempting to upload your book. If you do not have the latest version of Flash, click here. The make-ready screen above is for uploading the body text of your book. Let’s take a minute and look at the various components of this page.
| Step 4: Uploading Your Body Text | |||||||
Click on the body tab, look for your body text PDF in your file structure, click on it and your file will be loaded into the make-ready application. When you have uploaded your body text, your make-ready page should look like the illustration below. At this point, if needed, you can make adjustments to your right and left pages – moving copy up and down or left and right. Please note that any changes made to a page are universal throughout the book – so if you need to adjust the pages throughout the whole book, simply changing one spread will apply the change to all the other pages. Note: for the body text, the black line represents the trim (cut) line for the book and the blue lines represent your margin. The dark area in the middle represents the “gutter” area…you do not want copy in this area. The dark area will not print in your book.
| Step 5: Uploading the Cover | |||||||
In the make-ready application area, click on the “cover” tab. You will open another page and see the following empty cover spread:
Click on the “load cover” tab, find your cover PDF in your files and click on it – your cover will load into the template shown above.
Your loaded book cover should look like the item above. In the cover make-ready section, the outside pink lines will be your trim (cut) line. Clicking on the + sign in the blue box on the right will give you a drop down menu. Within this menu will be the controls to adjust your artwork up or down on the page. To ensure the spine is positioned correctly, use the zoom function on this site to ensure the type is well placed in the spine area. |
| Step 6: Printing Your Book | |||||||
With your body text and cover loaded you are now ready to print/order your book. To do this, go back to the “books” area of www.snowfallpress.com. You will be brought back to the follow page.
Then, do the following:
Click on the “checkout” tab and you will see the following page.
Click on the carrier option you want. Then you will see the shipping and packing costs appear. When you are satisfied that all the information is correct, click on the “order” button at the bottom of the page. Note that one of the value-added services of Snowfall Press is to give you the ability to ship directly to your end user customers – keeping you from having to make trips to the post office, buying postage, etc. |
Your order goes to the Snowfall servers, your PDFs are automatically prepared for printing, and within hours your book will be printed. |
Congratulations! You have just printed your book. Simple, yes? |
